'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Sousa Criticises Bodde For Missing Training

Paulo Sousa has criticised Ferrie Bodde after he ignored his request to attend today's training session.

The midfielder is at home in Holland recovering from a long-term knee injury and while he wasn't expected to return for today's training session, manager Paulo Sousa asked him to.

The new Swansea boss has criticised the Dutchman for his lack of respect, he told BBC Sport:

'Ferrie's a great player but needs to be a better professional,'

'He [needs] to have more respect for his colleagues, for the club, for myself and especially for himself as a player and as a professional.'

'We want to see how [Bodde's] knee is after the operation, to integrate him into our squad,'

'We believe Ferrie can play a high standard and we want him playing for us.

'I would welcome him back to be part of our squad, he's a talented player who can get us our results.

'We want everyone happy and committed at the club... if you don't have it you try to find a solution.'

Huw Jenkins told the press recently that Ferrie Bodde wants to leave the club to play at a higher level. Bolton are the only club to have made an official offer, but their 2.5m bid is way off the mark.

The Swans are looking to get around double that figure but it's unlikely a club will spend that much on a player who hasn't kicked a ball since November 2008.

He has caught the eye of a number of Premiership sides and no doubt former boss Roberto Martinez is keen to sign Bodde at Wigan Athletic.

Bodde has shown a complete lack of respect for Swansea City Football Club and regardless or whether or not he wants to leave, he should still commit himself to the club who brought him into a successful career in the English League two years ago.

He's proved to be one of our best signings in recent years but his recent attitude will no doubt anger a lot of fans.

When the BBC asked Bodde about his future, he simply replied: 'No comment.'

We need to get rid of him asap for the right price. disgraceful attitude

Let's hope there was a valid reason for his absence, rather than just feeling sorry for himself as he didn't go to Bolton. I'd like to think he's a lot more professional than this.

He had the opportunity to give a valid excuse though why he was missing, he just said 'no comment' when asked about his future with Swansea City.

he showed us how profesional he was last season with the derby saga.

Last summer he didn't come back from Holland because we did not give him permission to speak to Derby (Championship team). So history repeats itself this summer because we have not accepted Premiership Bolton's offer. Huw Jenkins last season said that Bodde had been ill-advised as to how things were done in the English Football League. Bodde has not learned from this, so I hope our Chairman does not defend him this time. If Bodde wishes to play in the Premiership, then come back to training and show that you are fit - other offers may come in.

i think the bid from bolton should have been accepted he spent a part of the league 1 campaign injured and most of this season and the team coped well without him and we also have a player who i reckon will be better than him in time "joe allan" the more games he gets the more experience he will have.bodde clearly doesnt want to be here so ship him out we will still make a tidy profit even though his old club will get half the fee.i just hope his injury doesnt reoccur or he will be worthless and an oppurtunity to bring money into this club to reinvest will be squandered.(p.s.i havent done this much typing/writing since i was in school many moons ago lol)
