Paulo Sousa Confirmed As New Manager

Swansea City have officially confirmed Paulo Sousa as their new manager at a press conference this afternoon.

The former QPR boss has signed a 3-year deal with the club and replaces Roberto Martinez who left to join Wigan Athletic.

Huw Jenkins was keen to appoint a manager who can continue our trend of playing an attractive, slick, European passing game, and the Swansea chairman fully believes that Paulo Sousa can do that.

Jenkins received over 100 applications for the job, with likes of Gary Speed, Aidy Boothroyd and Gus Poyet competing for the vacancy, but it was Paulo Sousa who impressed the most with his vision and ambitions for the Swans.

The former Portugese international has an attractive C.V, particularly as a player. He won 51 caps with his country, playing in Euro 1996 and 2000. He played for some of the top teams in Europe, such as Inter Milan, Juventus and Borussia Dortmund. He is still the only player to have won the Champions League back to back.

His coaching career began when he took over Portugal's under-15s team, he then joined first team coach Carlos Quieroz as his assistant. His first full manager's job was at fellow Championship side QPR. He joined the Loftus Road club in November 2008 along with assistant Bruno Oliveira, who is likely to follow him to Swansea City. He left just 5 months later though, getting sacked for revealing sensitive information - that Dexter Blackstock joined Nottingham Forest on loan without his knowledge.

He comes across really well and it's a great appointment I think. I had my doubts but I say bring on the new season now!
