Gomez Set For £1.6m Wigan Move

Spanish sources claim that Jordi Gomez is set to join Wigan Athletic for a £1.6m fee.

The Espanyol midfielder hugely impressed last year during his £200,000 season-long loan at the club and former boss Roberto Martinez showed a keen interest in making the move permanent.

It looked unlikely that would happen though as Martinez said that the Swans could not compete financially as a host of other clubs showed an interest in the youngster.

Gomez, who scored 14 goals for the Swans last season, looks set to team up with Roberto Martinez again.

Everton, Middlesbrough, Newcastle United and Celtic were other teams who were linked with the 24 year-old.

how good is he?
fansonline
He won the player of the year award last season

he was brought in as a SECOND choice central midfield player for us essentially. An option of the bench if you will. When our star player was out injured for most the season he filled his shoes with a different style of play and we played better even. He was fantastic, free kicks, technique, passing ability. Very talented player.

I don't we paid £200,000 for one season for him to be second choice. He was a first team regular and he's an excellent, attacking, goal-scoring midfielder. The only negative is his tendancy to get booked far too often with his sloppy challenges. He's excellent in possession, good passing and skill. He might prove to be a bargain at £1.6m if he adjusts well to the PL

He's good but will he cut it in the prem ?? i don't know if he's that good what was he doing going out on loan from a poor spanish team to a champ team ?? as for playing better with him, well just look how many games we drew to see how attacking he was.

'I would never go back to Swansea just to do that and pinch players. Now I am at Wigan we will not do things that are not honourable.' Nuff said...

His open letter to the fans in the Evening Post was pathetic.

@KevinE - Sorry I live in London so miss out on the Post :( Only get chance to catch on it up when I'm actually IN Swansea.
