Sousa Strong Favourite For Manager's Job

Paulo Sousa has emerged as the surprise new favourite to replace Roberto Martinez as our new manager.

BBC Wales report that the former QPR boss has been interviewed by the Swans and is the bookmakers' clear favourite for the job, with odds at 1/5, Poyet has dropped to 4/1 and Simon Davey 9/2. Gary Speed is now at 9/1.

Sousa played with the top teams in Europe and won the Champions League twice, with Juventus and Borussia Dortmund respectively. He also had spells with Inter Milan and Espanyol before his career ended early due to injury.

His coaching career began with the Portugese national team. Taking over the under-15s side before becoming Carlos Quieroz's assistant with the senior team.

His spell at QPR ended after just 26 games, and some Swansea fans have been put off by Sousa due to his record there. He won 7 of the 26 games he managed, drawing 12 and losing 7. However, if you compare Swansea's record during the same period, there's not much difference. We played 24 League games, winning 6, losing 4 and drawing 14.

Sousa's QPR side beat the Swans 1-0 in March at Loftus Road.

The board will meet on Friday after completing the interviews of those on their shortlist, which is now down to 5 candidates. An announcement should be made in a few days.

Sousa was a defensive midfielder who was excellent at recovering the ball and spraying long range passes to create the play.
