Hughes Out Of Running As He Joins Hibs

Former Falkirk boss John Hughes is out of the running to take over as our new manager as he has joined Hibernian instead.

The 44 year-old told the press that he was very much interested and flattered to be linked with the vacant manager's job at Swansea City.

He was favourite with bookmakers Victor Chandler but after joining Hibs, Roberto Martinez's assistant, Graeme Jones is now their new favourite for the job, with odds shortened to 5/2.

Many believe that Martinez is keen to take Jones with him to Wigan, along with the rest of the managerial staff, so it's interesting to see that his odds have shortened significantly today.

Hibs chairman meanwhile confirms the appointment of John Hughes:

'John has signed a three-year contract. We expect that Brian Rice will join at the club as his assistant,'

'John will galvanize everyone connected with Hibs and drive the club forward.'

"We need someone with experience. Not someone cutting their teeth in management, maybe an old head with a young assistant, who can learn the ropes as they go.

We can't let Bobby's amazing work go to waste, which it will if we appoint someone like Gary Speed or John Hartson. "
