Wigan Given Permission To Speak To Martinez

Wigan Athletic have confirmed they have received permission to have talks with Roberto Martinez about appointing him as their new manager.

It's not looking good for Swansea City fans and it's becoming increasingly likely that Roberto Martinez will be unveiled as the Latics' new boss this week.

The Spaniard's stay at the Liberty Stadium looks to be over as Wigan have agreed a compensation fee and look forward to having talks with Martinez.

A Wigan club statement read:

Wigan Athletic Football Club can announce that it has been given permission by Swansea City Football Club to speak to their manager, Roberto Martinez about the vacant manager's position.

A compensation deal has also been agreed, and now Wigan Athletics' Chief Executive, Brenda Spencer will meet with Roberto as soon as possible to try and agree a deal to bring him to the club.

As Chairman, Dave Whelan stated yesterday, Roberto is our number one choice and we are delighted to have permission to speak with him.

gutted, disappointing, but I expected it. Goes to prove there is no loyalty in the game and Martinez has gone to the first job that's been offered him, we could have been up there Wigan in a few years under him, but he's not bothering to finish the job here and deliver his long term plans with us.

cant believe it where do we look now.

Sorry lads, know how you feel, just hope if he does come that you can get someone in to carry on the good work
worbo
as I said money talks, sorry for you over this, one day a chair will tell a club to f*** off , hes under contract.

We're not a club to stand in anyone's way if they want to leave, Huw Jenkins doesn't want Martinez here if he wants to join another club. Don't be surprised if the same thing happens to you after a few good seasons and he's off to a bigger premiership club.
KevinE
don't look too smug wigan fans, this will happen to you soon when roberto does the same and leaves for a bigger club in a few seasons time.

won't be bothering with a season ticket now, and RM will only do the same to Wigan next season if he does well, i agree that HJ seen ££££ flashing in front of his eyes and cashed in, what hope have we of keeping our best players now?

In fairness to the wigan fans they're not looking too smug! It's the **** that happens in football but just feels worse after the repeated comments he made about his loyalty for SCFC, leaving us in prem, kicking, screamin, list goes on!! Really not sure how this is going to effect things but next season is going to be a stabiliser i feel, we can forget about a play-off push!

yeah most wigan fans on here and the forum have been ok and understanding with how disappointed we are, they've experienced it with bruce.
GThomas
