Martinez Wants Celtic Talks?

The Glasgow Evening Times are today reporting that Roberto Martinez is interested in having talks about a possible switch to Celtic.

by keith margam
"Jones and the backroom staff will want to go with him, it will be a massive upheaval."
It's the first time the Spaniard has been quoted on the matter, following yesterday's confirmation from chairman Huw Jenkins that the SPL side have made an official approach to the Swans about the Swansea manager.

The newspaper say that they expect Martinez to at least ask Swansea for permission to have talks with Celtic chairman Peter Lawwell.

While every Swans fan was hoping he'd come out and say he was fully committed to his job at the Liberty Stadium, The 35 year-old said:

'Managing Celtic is one of the top jobs in European football.

'Any young aspiring manager with ambition would be interested in a job like that.

'It gives you the chance of being involved in Champions League football and the opportunity of silverware every season.'

'I have an agreement in place with the Swansea chairman as to what would happen and I'd want that to be honoured.'

It seems slightly strange that Roberto has briefly spoken to the Scottish press while in Ibiza but nothing has been said to the likes of the Evening Post, who are also eager to hear his views on the matter.

Things aren't looking good for us though, as if these comments are true, it seems that Roberto is keen on the job and looks set to have talks at least about potentially taking over as manager at Celtic Park.

I'm surprised he's been quoted in the Scottish press but not in the Evening Post?

if these quotes are true then shame on you roberto, for going against your word speaking crap and not even having the decency to talk to the post first and fully explain the situation. one of the top jobs in european football? you're having a laugh.

well if this is true then i,v lost all respect for the man, because he,s always preached how he wants people to be commited to the swans and that he wont tolerate half heartedness within the club if he loves this club so much then he,d realise that goin will ruin all the hard work thats gone in.

Sounds like an agent trying to drum something up to me.

Hold on, hold on!!!! Roberto is entitled to have a sniff and see what Celtic has to offer. Don't crucify the greatest manager we ever had (apart from Toshack). If he doesn't get a chance to talk to Celtic he will be forever wondering 'what if'. So let him go and have a talk and he will know whether it would be a smart move or not.

greatest manager ever ??, still has a lot to prove imo only has a div 1 title at the moment, this season may have been a fluke with teams not knowing much about us, and he may feel that we are not as big as we need to be to survive in the prem, why work damn hard for us looking for budget gems when he could go to Celtic or Wigan with millions to spend

Shame on you all for "losing respect" for the man. In my eyes he is all that is good about the club at the moment and I would be far more upset if he wasn't getting recognised by the bigger clubs. I have my fingers crossed that he'll stay with us but full faith that he will do what he thinks is best!

i still respect the man he,s a good manager and a really nice bloke, but as they say you have to practice what you preach and if he goes now then he obviously isnt a man of his word i understand if in a year or two when we,r a recognised championship club if he wants to go further his career its understandable but we prob lose half our best players if he goes so people are gona be concerned and say things we wouldnt other wise say we,r part of this club aswel at the end of the day.

how is finishing 8th in the championship a fluke? utter BS. why work hard to get budget gems you say? he doesn't believe in spending millions of s too much for players in this over-inflated prices market, it's his way. he'll spend the money when he needs as he wants gomez for 1.2m but he's worth that.
