Middlesbrough To Double Gomez's Wages?

Today's News of the World report that Middlesbrough are willing to offer Jordi Gomez £13,000 a week, more than double what the Swans can pay.

Roberto Martinez said earlier this week that keeping the Espanyol midfielder at the club would be very difficult, as we can't compete financially with the likes of Newcastle, Celtic and Middlesbrough - 3 clubs who are interested in signing the Spaniard.

The newspaper also report that Swansea City had agreed a £1.6m fee with Espanyol to sign Gomez, but Middlesbrough - who look set to join us in the Championship next season, have equalled that bid but will offer the 23 year-old more than double his current weekly wage of £6,000.

It's looking increasingly unlikely that we'll keep Gomez, but Roberto Martinez is lining up other targets in midfield.

18 year-old Scottish wonderkid James McCarthy is still a target according to Wales Online, so too are his Hamilton team-mates James McArthur and Brian Easton.

Will he choose a side that will play against us twice next season? I doubt it.

I don't think he'll end up with Middlesbrough next season. I hope we find out soon though.
