Martinez: Gomez Signing Is Unlikely

Roberto Martinez admits that their chances of signing Jordi Gomez are slim, as they can't compete financially with their competitors.

The Espanyol midfielder impressed immensely during his season-long loan last season and the Swans boss is keen to keep him at the Liberty Stadium.

"not the end of the world we've lost good players before and survived."
Gomez says he would like to stay at Swansea but that's proving difficult as we can't compete financially with clubs like Newcastle and Middlesbrough who are also interested in signing him.

Roberto Martinez said:

'Jordi is going to be a difficult one,'

'We are talking about a player who has grown massively in the last season and his valuation has gone through the roof.

'There is a lot of interest in him and he is going to have a lot of options which are financially miles better than what we can offer him.

'If he was going to make a football decision, 100 per cent he would stay with us for the long term.

'Unfortunately, in the modern game I don't think it's going to be as straightforward as that.'

Bloody money talk...

Whatever our maximum bid is will be beaten by the likes of Boro and Newcastle so that's where we are struggling. I don't think getting Gomez to agree personal terms with us will be too hard if we do happen to get a bid excepted, which is looking unlikely.

personally i don't think he'd make it at either of those two clubs, he will only be any good at a club that plays total football

Good remark there cyjax. Arsenal would fit him but his move to such club is unrealistic either.
Czech_Jack
Disappointing to lose out. We gave him the opportunity which suited our style, his excellent play put himself in the shop window, and unfortunately a "money" club will have the finance to sign him.

what a shame it looks like we won't sign him but we'll cope, just like we did when Bodde got injured. He'll be back and we'll probably sign another quality midfielder.

i do think its a shame if we dont sign gomez but martinez has such talent as a manager i dont think we,l miss him that much, thawt that was it when bodde and pratley were injured but we were just as good.
