Middlesbrough To Bid £1.7m For Gomez?

Wales Online believe that Middlesbrough are set to bid £1.7m for midfielder Jordi Gomez.

The Espanyol youngster impressed during his season-long loan with the Swans and deservedly won the Supporters' Player of the Year award.

Southgate's side look set to join us in the Championship next season as they 3 points adrift of safety with just 1 game remaining.

With relegation looming, Middlesbrough are expecting to lose Stewart Downing and it's thought they want to bring in Gomez as his replacement.

Espanyol are willing to sell Gomez as they are lining up moves for 2 midfielders in the Summer - Oscar Ahumada and Javier Calleja as we reported earlier this week.

According to reports, a clause was written in Gomez's £200,000 loan move that a fee was agreed to make the transfer permanent this Summer. However, with a change of management at the La Liga club, Gomez could now be sold to the highest bidder, and it's unlikely that we can compete with Middlesbrough's spending capabilities.

Another factor to consider though is where Gomez wants to be next season. He enjoys playing for the Swans and he can see the potential here, will he risk that for a move to the Riverside?
