'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Martinez Could Play Scotland & Dobbie Together

Roberto Martinez says he could play Jason Scotland and Stephen Dobbie up front together next season.

The Swansea boss is a big fan of his 4-5-1 formation with Scotland as a lone striker. Very rarely does he switch to 4-4-2, only during a game to boost our attacking options.

But the Spaniard told the Evening Post that he could give Scotland a strike partner next season in new signing Dobbie, who have played together briefly at St Johnstone.

Both players were a huge success in the Scottish First Division. Dobbie scored 24 goals last season for Queen of the South while Scotland scored 33 goals in 65 League starts during his 2-year spell with St Johnstone between 2005 and 2007.

Martinez told the Evening Post:

'You are talking about two players who can understand each other fantastically well,'

'They were together at St Johnstone and they know each other really well.

'They were together at St. Johnstone and they know each other really well.

'I have seen a couple of DVD's and they looked to have a great understanding then. We hope to rekindle that and polish it.'

'I would say Jason can only play that central role or just in behind as a shadow striker,'

'But Stephen can play centrally on his own, he can play with another striker or he can play out wide.

'He is a clinical finisher who can play in any position up front.'

Roberto Martinez may not have the chance to play the duo together though as Jason Scotland has been strongly linked to a number of clubs, including Premiership sides Fulham and Middlesbrough.

Could Dobbie and Scotland form a lethal partnership up front next season?

The opposition did their homework on Scotland as the lone striker, and blocked him out. Something new has to be done for next season, so 2 in attack will be better.
