Defence Needs The Most Strengthening

In a site poll, 71% of readers voted that the defence needs the most strengthening in preparation for next season.

The Swans started their season well defensively as Ashley Williams and Garry Monk developed a good centre-back partnership, with the help of two good full backs either side in Angel Rangel and Marcos Painter.

In their opening 6 fixtures in all competitions in August, just 5 goals were conceded in 6 games.

Our only real poor showing was away at Reading where they comprehensively beat us 4-0. During the season the Swans kept 13 clean sheets in the League.

Towards the end of the year though, we started to leak more goals and made more sloppy mistakes. Skipper Garry Monk was sidelined with an injury and we didn't look quite as solid at the back in his absence.

With Dennis Lawrence being released, and Angel Rangel strongly linked with a £4million Summer move to Manchester City or Blackburn, Roberto Martinez may well feel he needs to sign at least 1 defender to maintain the numbers and improve the backline for next season.

18% voted we need to improve in attack, despite the recent signing of Stephen Dobbie. 7% voted goalkeeper and just 4% voted for midfield.

In our new poll, we'd like to know your views on the right midfield role for next season. Would you rather the Swans sign Nathan Dyer or Paul Anderson next season? Or, neither of them and we should look elsewhere for a right winger.

I hope martinez has a strong experienced centre back on his targets list. he wants another 4 signings so surely a defender features in that list, maybe even 2 cos we're ok in midfield.
