Monk: We Paid The Price For All Those Draws

Garry Monk looks back in hindsight at all our drawn games as we ended our hopes of reaching the play-offs yesterday - losing 1-0 at Sheffield United.

Swansea City experienced an excellent run which started in November, when we went 13 League games without defeat, but we drew 8 games in a row which prevented us from forcing our way in the top 6.

Monk told Wales Online:

"It`s disappointing for the dream to end this way,"

"But we have got to look back at the rest of the season and accept that, at the end of the day, we drew too many games.

"If we had won five of those 20 draws we would comfortably have been in the playoffs, if not pushing for automatic promotion. Losing to Sheffield United obviously put the nail in the coffin but we paid the price for all those draws.

"We can still take a lot of pride in what we have done this season though. It has been a remarkable achievement and we need to use that as motivation to push on next season."

Monk also commented on the penalty he conceded which gave Sheffield United the 3 points, he added:

"Unfortunately for me it was one of those where, even though I didn`t try to tackle him, I couldn`t get out of his way and he was always going to go down.

He was very clever and, in this situation away from home, the ref is always going to give that decision.

"I`m not complaining about it though. It`s just one of those things."

we dropped far too many points, drawing many games we should have won and that was our downfall in the end.
