Martinez Delighted With Today's 3-1 Win

Roberto Martinez said he was delighted with today's 3-1 win away at Barnsley, which keeps our play-off hopes alive.

With Cardiff City beating Burnley 3-1 at Ninian Park, the Swans have cut the gap over the 6th-placed to 4 points now, with just 3 games remaining.

Ashley Williams got us off to a great start early on, poking the ball home within the first 2 minutes.

Jordi Gomez again showed his raw talent with a superb strike from 25 yards to double our lead on 36 minutes.

Barnsley had more of the possession and chances and although the Swans were under the cosh at times, we took our chances and Scotland put the game beyond doubt with 67 minutes played, thanks to error from the goalkeeper.

Bogdanovic then got a late consolation from the penalty spot as Alan Tate handled the ball.

Martinez said:

I don't think it was comfortable. Obviously the first goal was going to be vital because you are looking at the need for both sides to win for different reasons.

'(The goal) was going to be a major, major influence on the game. Obviously scoring early settled down a lot of what we wanted to do.

'The reality was that we knew we were going to have to probably deal with a huge pressure from Barnsley.

'We needed responsible performances. I was delighted the way we defended ....This is a difficult place to come at this stage of the season so we are delighted with the result.'
