Rangel Doubtful For Norwich Game

Right back Angel Rangel is a doubt for Saturday's home game against Norwich City.

The Spaniard picked up a heel injury during Sunday's derby match against Cardiff City and was brought off during the second half.

If he doesn't make it, Albert Serran, who replaced him on the weekend, would be the likely choice to fill in at right back, also available is Matty Collins.

Serran made an excellent League debut for us at right back, making a superb run down the wing to provide the ball for Scotland's opener in the 3-0 home win against Ipswich Town.

Martinez told the Evening Post that Rangel has been carrying the injury for some time now:

"Angel has got away with it in certain games, but he has been suffering for a few weeks now.

"Because of the warmer weather we've had, the pitch at Cardiff was a bit harder and that was a bit too much for him.

"Angel did really well to play for as long as he did because in the second half it was very, very difficult for him."

"Angel was not his normal self at Cardiff. His movement going forward was restricted.

"We are assessing him and hopefully it won't be a long lay off.

He has inflammation of the tendon in his right heel and it could be that he is out for around a week.

"He is doubtful for Norwich, but at the same time I wouldn't rule him out.

"If he reacts well to treatment he has got a chance. It's just a shame that he has got this problem when we're in the middle of another little busy period."

Should he not play, then Collins will have another chance to show what he is capable of.
