De Vries: 'We Didn't Play That Well'

Goalkeeper Dorus De Vries says the Swans didn't play that well during Sunday's derby match at Ninian Park.

It was a big improvement from our recent poor performances, but you could easily argue that we weren't at our absolute best against Cardiff City on Sunday morning.

Having said that, despite being under the cosh for most of the second half, we thought we had done enough to win the game with 2 minutes remaining as Joe Allen came on to fire in a superb strike from outside the penalty area.

Minutes later though, Mike Dean decides to help Cardiff City enormously by denying the Swans massive bragging rights. Instead of Joe Allen winning the game with his first ever goal, Dean decides to award the home side a penalty, and what a soft decision it was.

De Vries performed well during the game but I'd be hugely surprised if one Swansea fan had a glimmer of hope that he'd save McCormack's effort. He didn't and dived the wrong way.

It felt like a defeat for De Vries and many others, he said:

'I thought we'd won it after Joe scored, but the smile was certainly wiped off my face.'

'It was very difficult to take because it was the last derby game at Ninian Park and we were desperate to win it.

'We wanted an historic win and we wanted to give the supporters that extra bit of happiness.

'It felt like we lost in the end, but we have to look at the positives.

'We didn't actually play that well, but we very nearly dug out a good result.

'That's a real positive and that's what we have to take into the Norwich game.'

"we" didn't play well - that includes himself. When Cardiff scored their first goal he was standing appealing for off-side. I hope in future he will play to the whistle. I still hah him as my man of the match.
