'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Martinez: Discipline Won't Be A Problem

Roberto Martinez says discipline won't be a problem for his side when they face Cardiff City on Sunday at Ninian Park in the much-anticipated Welsh Derby.

In both derby games so far this season, Stephen McPhail got sent off for the Bluebirds. For the home game which ended 2-2, Leon Britton was also shown red for a second bookable offence.

Ahead of the big game, Martinez says it's vital that his side don't lose their heads:

'We have six vital games ahead of us,''

'But we will be using all the experience we've gained throughout the season to make sure we finish the last six games on a high; reaching the standards we need to get into the play-offs.

'I think the break has done us the power of good and the boys are training with big smiles on their faces; which is a good sign.

'Now we've got a mini league of six games to go, starting with a Welsh derby at Ninian Park.

'I don't think this derby will be beaten anywhere in the world for its uniqueness. The two derbies at the Liberty Stadium have had everything, but with play-off places up for grabs as well its going to be another great occasion.

'To have Swansea and Cardiff pushing for a top six place is great news for South Wales and Welsh football.

'But we must remain focussed and set the standard for the five games after Cardiff. But I think the players are ready to go into the sort of environment they'll face at Ninian Park.

'Yes it's vital we keep our heads, but we've never had a problem with discipline.''

i hope cardiff city lose their heads again. we're usually good in that department, britton's sending off was harsh at the liberty.

Discipline will not be a bother, but performance will be. From the last 6 games we managed 6 out of 18 points. From the final 6 games we will need 15 points (says Martinez) to get into the playoffs. This will be a very difficult task.
