'If It's Football, It's Vital'

We'll Fight To Keep Our Star Players

Swansea City Chairman Huw Jenkins insists the club will fight 'tooth and nail' to keep their star players in the Summer transfer window.

Angel Rangel has recently been linked with a move to Premiership side Manchester City while on-loan Espanyol midfielder Jordi Gomez is on Celtic's wanted list.

Striker Jason Scotland has continued his superb goalscoring form in the Championship, netting 18 League goals this season, and he could well be the subject of a Premiership bid in the Summer.

As yet, Huw Jenkins says he hasn't received any interest in his players but it's fair to say we'd be surprised if we didn't have bids to reject at the end of the season.

'We will fight tooth and nail to keep every one of our players on the books this year if any interest comes.

'But you have to look at some of the money teams are offering in transfer fees and wages.

'There are clubs spending millions of pounds just to get out of the Championship or to stay in the Premier League and we are not going to get involved in the mad world they are in.'

'We have had a reasonable season, and a few of our players have enhanced their reputations.

'Whether that's enough to warrant somebody coming in for them I don't know.

'The problem is the money in football, which is slowly ruining the game.

'The sooner somebody puts some rules in place to take control of it the better, otherwise clubs like ours are going to come under pressure because of the ridiculous wages and fees being offered.'

While a lot of promoted League One clubs enjoy a honeymoon season in the Championship, they usually struggle in the second year. The same couldn't be said for Swansea City though, as long as we keep the majority of our best players, we look good to match this season's achievements next year.

Even if we did lose Jordi Gomez and Angel Rangel for example, boss Roberto Martinez has shown he can sign quality players for extremely low transfer fees.

Angel Rangel, Jason Scotland and Ferrie Bodde were all bought for 5-figure fees and yet they could attract 7-figure bids in a few months time.

The pre-season is sure to be an eventful one, as it usually is at Swansea City. Most of the speculation is bound to be about our own players, and the question is, will Premiership clubs gamble with £2million plus bids for our star players?

Can Swansea City improve on this season's achievements? Will we keep our star players?

Hello Swans, ManCity fan here. Just out of interest, do you think Angel Rangel would be good enough to make the step up to the premiership? Don't know too much about him, but have heard one or two good things and wanted to canvass your opinion. Best of luck for the rest of the season, hope you make it to the playoffs.

Every Swans fan I'm sure will tell you that he is a quality player, superb in attack, gets down the line well but also tracks back and is equally sound when he needs to defend. Has excellent winning attitude which shows on the pitch. He could definitely make the step up I think but with all the money you've got, I don't know why you'd buy someone who's unproven at that level. Surely your owners will demand their money is spent on the best?

He has to be the best right back in the Championship, I'd love to see a better one if there is. I agree with Kevin above though, wouldn't you spend a lot more on a world class player?
