Martinez Hails Striker Jason Scotland

Swansea City manager Roberto Martinez has heaped praise on striker Jason Scotland after he scored his 20th goal of the season yesterday at Nottingham Forest.

The Trinidad & Tobago front-man gave us the lead on the hour mark at the City Ground thanks to some excellent build up play from Jordi Gomez and Guillem Bauza.

His opener, his 20th strike of the season, was cancelled out 15 minutes later though as substitute McGugan headed home from close range to share the points.

Martinez told BBC Sport that he is still yet to reach his peak this season:

'He hasn't hit his peak, in the remaining games we'll see him take his game to another level.'

'To score 20 goals at this level is outstanding,'

'It is an an amazing story as the progression he has made and the responsibility he takes is fantastic.'

'Jason is not the sort of player who relies on his physical threat to score goals,'

'He relies on his quality. When you rely on that, the higher you play, around better players, the easier it becomes for you.

'With Jason I have never had doubts he could go into the Premier League and score goals there.

'But Swansea are certainly getting a lot of enjoyment from Jason's football.'

Jason Scotland scored 29 goals last season in League One, proving to be one of the main reasons why we were so successful in 2008.

With 20 strikes so far this term, I wouldn't bet against him getting close to last year's tally.
