Allen Hopes To Get Wales Call-Up

Swansea's 18 year-old midfielder Joe Allen says he's hoping to earn a international call-up with Wales.

The teenager has come into the first team and has been a superb replacement for Dutchman Ferrie Bodde, who has been out with a knee injury since November.

Allen is hoping his performances for the Swans will attract Wales boss John Toshack to call him to the squad.

Allen told BBC Sport:

'The more games I play hopefully it will give me more of a chance.

'I must concentrate every game I play for my club and when Wales decide I'm ready, that's when I'm ready.'

'Hopefully international recognition will come as the performances and the game time come as well.

'Hopefully it's something that I'll get a chance to do in the future.'

Allen has played 9 times for Wales under-21s and is now looking for the next step up to the senior squad.

Fellow Swan, Owain Tudur-Jones featured on the bench in a recent friendly, but he has struggled to get anywhere near Swansea's starting line-up, you have to wonder what more Allen has to do to earn his Welsh debut.

toshack must be mad for picking tudur-jones instead of allen for his squad. it cant be long before he gets called up, the boy's quality.

He deserves it the way he's been playing and I'll be surprised if Toshack doesn't call him up to the squad soon. I know he's young and lacking experience but he still has the quality and ability to shine at Championship level.
