Martinez: It Was A Mature Performance

Roberto Martinez was disappointed by how his side started tonight's game at Derby but was pleased with their attitude to come back from a 2-goal deficit.

Chris Porter opened the scoring after 14 minutes, netting the rebound after De Vries could only parry Robbie Savage's free-kick.

Derby were a threat on the attack and had a goal disallowed before the break, the assistant ruling it out for offside.

We then made a terrible start to the second half, as Porter grabbed his second early on, as we faced a mountain to climb if we were to get anything from tonight's game.

Our chances looked slim but a goal on 55 minutes gave us fresh hope as Rangel struck home following Gomez's cross.

The early goal gave us momentum now to push on for another, and Gorka Pintado came on 5 minutes after we scored to fire home the equaliser with just 4 minutes remaining.

After an eventful game at Pride Park, Martinez told BBC Sport:

'I think we had a mature performance at the end. It was a difficult environment for us - it is a Premier League environment coming to Derby.

'I was pleased with that but we didn't start the game well and we got punished, and again in the second half.

'But the character and personality and never-say-die attitude and bravery to open the game up, I think, made us worthy of a point in the end.'

He keeps going on about premier league environments, they're not premier league teams anymore roberto, they're below us in the league and more than capable of beating. average championship teams they are now.
