Martinez: Play-Off Race Will Go Down To Last Game

Roberto Martinez believes the play-offs decider will go down to the last game of the season.

A number of teams are competing closely for one of four play-off spots, and The Swansea boss admits any one down to QPR in 11th could finish the season in the top 6.

Us and Sheffield United in 7th have a slight advantage over Burnley, Bristol City and Preston as we have a game in hand over these teams, a win for both would see us go above them.

Martinez reckons we need another 20 points minimum from our remaining 13 games, and if we can maintain our current form, we should achieve around 78 points, finishing 3rd according to the recent form books.

Looking at our remaining fixtures, the Swans don't face many of our fellow play-off hopefuls.

Our game in hand is a tough trip to QPR on March 17th and our final 3 games could prove to be crucial, as we face Bristol City (5th), Sheffield United (7th) and Blackpool (17th).

Martinez told the Evening Post:

'I think the play-off race is going to go down to the last game,'

'Our last game is at home, which is going to be a big advantage because there are not many teams in that position.

We have to make sure we go into that game with a chance and then we'll try to press home our advantage.'

'Anything between 71 and 74 points at least is something we need to look at to get into the play-offs,'

'But it is not easy to talk about points tallies when there are so many teams involved — there are seven going for fifth and sixth.

'Everyone has a chance down to ourselves, Ipswich and QPR.'

Swansea City host Charlton Atheltic tomorrow afternoon at the Liberty Stadium.
