De Vries Wants To Avoid A Penalty Shoot Out

Goalkeeper Dorus De Vries says he wants to avoid extra time and penalties in tonight's FA Cup 5th round replay at Fulham.

I don't blame him either, as we're still waiting for the Dutchman to save his first penalty for the Swans.

It's fair to say that it's even rare to see him get close to a penalty when we concede one, and hopefully tonight we can win the game after 90 minutes.

You'd have to fancy Fulham's chances in the a shoot-out, as they have a good goalkeeper in Mark Schwarzer who made some excellent saves in the first tie to keep the scores level at 1-1.

De Vries told the Evening Post:

'Believe it or not, my record on penalties before I came to Swansea was quite good,'

'I saved a few back in Holland and when I was at Dunfermline I made a really important save in the cup.

'It was the second stage of the competition and it was 0-0 with five minutes to go.

'I managed to save the penalty, we got through and we ended up going all the way to the final.

'To do something similar tonight would be superb, especially as the reward is Manchester United.

'That's the dream scenario for a keeper — it's a great way to win a game. But having said that, I hope it doesn't go as far as penalties.

'I hope we can produce our football and that will be enough to get us through.'

'We have a day every week where we try to analyse the opposition,'

'I will look at Fulham's penalty-takers and get as much information as I can.

'But if it's a good penalty it should be a goal — it's as simple as that.

'If you save one, you have been lucky.

'Hopefully that bit of luck might come tonight if it gets that far — although I would rather have saved the Cardiff City penalty in the league game to be honest.'
