No Prize Money For LDV Vans Trophy
Swansea City could lose out on £50,000 if they win the renamed Football League Trophy as the sponsors, LDV Vans have gone into liquidation.
The company was sold off last year after going into administration and the new owners will not be providing the cash prize to the winners.
With no money received after progressing through the rounds, chairman Huw Jenkins is expecting to lose out on around £75,000 if we win the trophy on Sunday.
He said: 'Unless a last-minute sponsor comes in for the actual game on the day, we have to accept we're going to struggle to get any prize money from it,'
'The players are on bouses to get through to the final, and those bonuses are based on prize money so this does hit our earning power on the day.
'But we have a commitment to honour the bonus contracts so obviously we'll do that.'
We still expect a bumper pay day with 45% of the ticket receipts but as Huw said, this does affect our earnings, what with bonuses to be paid out along with wages of course.
More than 22,000 tickets have been sold to Swans fans with 4 more days left to purchase tickets for the game.
Tickets go off sale at 4pm on Friday.
Swansea will be hoping to receive £100,000 as they try to retain their FAW Premier Cup title against Wrexham.
The game will be played at the Racecourse on Wednesday, kicking off at a time that suits the BBC, 6:45pm.
Fans wanting to attend the game can buy tickets (£5, £10) which includes free coach travel.
The game will be screened live on BBC2 Wales.
