Gomez Deal 'More or Less Agreed' With Espanyol

Continuing from last night's article, Martinez now says a deal is more or less agreed with Espanyol to sign Jordi Gomez.

It seems Espanyol are willing to sell the young midfielder which is excellent news for us, providing that the player himself wants to stay at Swansea City.

It'll be a surprise if he doesn't, as he has had a superb debut season with us and can clearly see that we have the potential to reach the Premiership in the near future.

Gomez has already said before that he is enjoying his time in South Wales, and when asked if he would like to stay permanently, he replied 'Yeah, why not?'

Martinez is hoping Gomez can be a big part of the club's future, and he told BBC Sport:

'Our links with Espanyol are very good and everything is more or less agreed,'

'But I don't want to do anything until the player tells me he wants to be an important player for Swansea City.'

'When we had the opportunity to give him a home, to give him an important role, we knew he would excel and that, for us, is a great feeling.'

'We know he feels at home and feels important and when a player feels that way,'

'I'm sure that he is someone who will look forward to the future to be a big part of Swansea City.

'We want characters who want to be here and who now how important it is to put on the Swansea City shirt, and Jordi has enjoyed every single second.'

Gomez has adjusted and adapted to the British game superbly and has scored 11 goals.

Those include some superb long range free-kicks, including one that saw us beat Cardiff City in the Carling Cup in September.

He has also scored in all of the last 3 games and you can clearly see now why we paid £100,000 just to have him for one season on loan.
