Martinez Not Looking To Sign Goalkeeper

Roberto Martinez says he is ready to put faith in young David Cornell, rather than look to sign a backup goalkeeper.

The Swansea City boss may look to the 17 year-old to play on Saturday as we host Fulham in the FA Cup 5th round at the Liberty Stadium.

Martinez is left with just one senior goalkeeper now as we failed to extend Dimi Konstantopoulos's loan stay with us, as the Greek has now joined our bitter rivals Cardiff City.

Martinez told the Evening Post:

'We wanted Dimi to stay with us, but we are not looking for anyone to replace him,'

'David Cornell is back in training after a long-term injury. He has worked with us for around 10 sessions and he looks very strong.

'He has a great frame and has been working with (goalkeeping coach) Inaki Bergara for a very long time.

'We have been impressed with David's progression and we feel he is ready to push into the first-team squad now.'

'He has been frustrated with that but he has worked hard in the gym and his body is filling out,'

'I think that without a doubt he is a player who will make it through to the senior ranks

and I am more than happy to work with David and Dorus.'

Are you happy that Martinez is looking to the youth as backup? Or do we need more experience for Saturday's big cup game?
