Serran: I'll Get Even Better

Swansea City defender Albert Serran says he'll continue to improve after making his League debut on Saturday at home to Ipswich.

His first game in the Championship couldn't have got off to a better start, as he helped us get on our way to another comfortable victory.

He made a superb run down the right wing, one Rangel would have been proud of, before crossing low for Scotland to net his 15th goal of the season.

Yet again, a player has come in to do a excellent job in place of a regular first teamer. Joe Allen has replaced Ferrie Bodde, Alan Tate has come in for Marcos Painter, and Jordi Gomez and Nathan Dyer have helped fill the holes left when Darren Pratley and Leon Britton have been sidelined.

Considering Serran has played just four Cup games since the Summer and that he has no League experience with the Swans, he produced a remarkable performance at right back, and it's unfortunate that he's likely to lose his place after one game. Rangel is surely going to return to the starting line-up next weekend after serving a one-match ban. However, Martinez may choose to rest him for the League as we entertain Fulham in the FA Cup 5th round next weekend.

The 24 year-old told the Western Mail:

"The more games I play, the better I will get because my confidence will improve,"

"But every chance I get I have to play well because I need more games.

"I am ready now because I have been working very hard all the time in training. My fitness is great and now I feel good about playing.

"Being on the bench has been difficult for me. But, now I have had my first game, I am waiting for more chances."

"It was a really good start for me in the Championship. I am very, very happy with how the game went.

"To get the assist within three minutes was incredible for me. My natural position is in centre back but I was happy with how it went at right back. I think Roberto was happy with how I played too."

if he can play like that in his first league game i cant wait to see him play in a few months time, he'll have time to improve even more.

Agree with GT but can`t see him having a run in the team unless Angel gets injured. But really impressed with his performance and it`s reassuring that we have this depth in the squad.
