Serran Poised for League Bow

Serran Poised for League Bow

Spanish defender Albert Serran is set to make his league debut in the absence of Angel Rangel this Saturday against Ipswich.

The former Espanyol man has been very much on the fringes of things since his £80,000 move in the summer, but after a couple of Carling Cup appearances he looks likely to get his first taste of the English Football League.

Rangel misses out through suspension, whilst Matty Collins is still a couple of weeks away from fitness after suffering an ankle injury.

But Martinez told the Evening Post that Serran is now prepared for the challenge of a league game.

'Albert has played in the cups for us and he is a player who has had to adapt from the way he played in Spain.'

'It's been a learning curve for him, but I would say he has been ready for around six weeks and it's great to have a player of his quality pushing the others.'

'Albert is someone who we signed with the long term in mind and I think he will go on to be a very important player for this club.'

'We have another alternative with Angel out, and that is to switch to a back-three. That is something we are capable of this season with the squad we've built and something we are happy to do if that is best against particular opposition.'

Meanwhile, the Swans will find out today if Dimi Konstantopoulos will remain at the club until the end of the season.

The Swans agreed the deal with Coventry, but Dimi didn't sign the forms in time due to the snow.
