De Vries Close to Committing to Swansea

Swansea City goalkeeper Dorus de Vries has said that he is close to signing a new deal that will keep him at the Liberty Stadium.

The Dutch stopper had been stalling over a new deal, with some reports suggesting he may return to Holland to finish his career.

But the Holland under-21 international now looks set to remain in South Wales, as he explained to the Evening Post.

'Hopefully it's going to be sorted soon. I am waiting for the club to respond but things are coming closer and closer.'

'You have to think about choices in your career and going home to Holland was a possibility.'

'There has been some interest which would have meant the possibility of playing in Europe, so there were lots of things to think about.'

'But my eyes are focused on Swansea. I think we are the most progressive club in our league and that something special is happening here.'

'We have a young, hungry squad and a manager who has the ability to lift us to a higher level, so I want to be part of that.'

Roberto Martinez has also revealed that the club are still trying to strike a deal with Coventry City for Dimi Konstantopoulos.

"It's a three-way conversation between us, Dimi and Coventry. Coventry are looking to sort things in the best possible way for them and these things can take time," he said.
