Martinez Sticks To Survival Target

Roberto Martinez has insisted his only focus at the moment is reaching the points tally he has targetted to guarantee survival.

Last nights 4-1 win against Preston left the Spaniards side on the fringes of the play-off positions, but the ever pragmatic Martinez is refusing to get carried away.

Speaking to the Evening Post, Martinez said:

'I haven't looked at the table and I don't know where we are.'

'I won't even look when I get home — I know our points tally and that is all that matters to me at this stage.'

'It doesn't bother me where we are in the league. The target for me at the moment is 51 points, which will guarantee that we stay up.'

'After that, and when we get into the last third of the season, we will assess our situation and see what we can do.'

'The way we started the game, with the right tempo, pleased me because that was a worry for me after Portsmouth,' Martinez admitted.

'Is this the best run of form we've had? It's hard to say. What I would say is that you can see an improvement from the start of the season and it's pleasing for me that we have been able to adapt.'

As well as the Swans victory last night, Shaun Macdonald got his loan spell at Yeovil off to a flying start by scoring the winning goal against Huddersfield.
