MacDonald On Loan To Yeovil

Shaun MacDonald has joined Yeovil Town on a month's loan which could be extended until the end of the season.

The young Welshman has made just 2 substitute appearances in the League this season and told the Official site that he has been nagging boss Martinez for a loan move:

'The move came out of the blue to be honest,''

'I have been nagging the gaffer (Roberto Martinez) to go out on loan for the last few weeks because I was desperate to get some game time under my belt.

'He spoke to me in training last night and said that Yeovil manager Russell Slade had asked if I would be interested in a loan spell there. I know there were a few other clubs interested, but I know Yeovil is a good club and at this stage of my career I need to be playing.

'I've been training well and I think I've done okay when I've played this season, but at my age I need to be playing because it gets a bit frustrating otherwise.

'Hopefully I can get my match fitness pretty quickly, do well for Yeovil and come back to Swansea stronger and in a better position to fight for my place.

'I know it worked for Kristian (O'Leary) a few seasons ago when he went to Cheltenham, plus Joe (Allen) when he went to Wrexham on loan earlier this season.

'I think Yeovil have got seven games in the next month, so I'll have plenty of opportunities to impress.''

Martinez added:

'I've been delighted with Shaun's progress and development since pre-season.

'Now he has a great opportunity to increase his game time and put all that hard work and intensity in training to good use. It will aid his development again.

'I'm sure he will make a big impact at Yeovil and I will be looking forward to him coming back home ready for the last third of our Championship campaign.''

Despite his lack of appearances this season, MacDonald has showed promising signs of becoming a good player for us in the future. His most notable appearance was coming on against Cardiff, taking the corner to give Pintado the chance to score the equaliser against our bitter rivals.

He scored the only goal against Huddersfield to give Yeovil 3 points. Could not have wanted a better start to his loan period.
