'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Martinez Wants Dyer For Keeps

Roberto Martinez has expressed his desire to make Nathan Dyer's loan spell a permanent signing at the Liberty.

Dyer, 21, has impressed in his two starts in a Swansea shirt, scoring the opening goal at Portsmouth in a famous FA Cup win on Saturday.

Martinez insists there is no rush to sign Dyer in this window, but does admit that should the Southampton man keep up his early form there will be bigger clubs in for him.

Martinez told the Evening Post:

'We would like to keep Nathan permanently,' Martinez admitted.

'But it's not down to us. Any deal depends on the parent club and the player's wishes.'

'We spoke to Southampton when Nathan joined us on loan about a permanent deal, but we'll have to wait and see. At the moment he is definitely with us until the end of the season so there is no pressure to do anything in this window.'

'In football, as in life, there are always bigger fish. You cannot worry about someone else coming in because if you do you won't do anything.'

'My biggest concern at the moment is making sure Nathan enjoys his football. He has had a frustrating time in certain squads, but he can see he can realise his Premier League potential with Swansea City.'

'That is important because the player's opinion is crucial.'

Another Swans winger, Shaun Macdonald, has joined League One Yeovil on a one month loan deal.
