Allen Targetting Wales Debut

Swansea City youngster Joe Allen has targetted a place in John Toshack's Wales squad after his recent run of good form.

"He must surely be on Tosh's short list, probably putting OTJ back a place."
The 18 year old has been outstanding at the heart of the Swansea midfield in the absence of Ferrie Bodde and has kept Owain Tudur-Jones out of the side.

And the young Liberty Stadium product is hoping that his club form will lead to him realising his dream of representing his country.

Speaking to the Western Mail, Allen said:

"It`s always been my dream to play for my country. I`d like to think I will one day.'

'Performances like this one against Reading won`t hurt me at all. But I know I have to keep improving for it to happen.'

"Playing in the Championship week in, week out will certainly help.'

"But I have to keep my feet on the ground and make sure I stay in the Swansea team first.'

"We have a really competitive squad here. So my number one focus has to be keeping my place in the Swans team and, if that happens, hopefully Wales will follow one day."

"I had a few games for Swansea last year, but I needed more experience and going on loan gave me that," he said.

"Then it was just a case of making sure I took my chance here when it came along.'

"I don`t think I did take it last year, but I have learnt from that this time round.'

"Every game is just as important as the next and I know I have to keep delivering week in, week out.'

"Things are obviously going really well for me at the moment.'

"But I`ve got to keep working and hopefully I can get a good run in the team."

Toshack was in the stands for Saturday's win over Reading and Allen will surely have done enough to earn his place in the full Welsh squad.
