Williams Hails 'Perfect' Year

Swansea City central defender Ashley Williams has described 2008 as the best year of his football career.

The Welsh international joined on a permanent basis at the beginning of the season for a bargain £400,000 from Stockport County.

His education under Jim Gannon saw him earn international honours with Wales, and under Roberto Martinez he has flourished even further and is now one of the first names on the teamsheet.

Williams told BBC Sport:

'I couldn't have asked for any more out of 2008.'

'When it started I didn't realise it was going to be so big... it was the perfect year in football for me.'

'It was a rollercoaster but enjoyable games keep coming and coming.'

'I'm happy with my performances, I think the gaffer's happy with my performances, I've just tried to adapt and work hard. Hopefully it's paying off.'


Williams also paid credit to the work of Wales boss and former Jack, John Toshack.

'I want him to stay and sign, he's the one who took a chance on me and said 'go and show what you can do' and then he kept picking me.'

'He has got a good young team together.'

'And if we can stay together I think everyone's excited about where we can go.'

'No-one can say a bad word about what he's doing now.'


Similarly Ash, no-one can say a bad word about what you're doing now.
