Martinez Delighted to Prove a Point

Roberto Martinez has said Saturday's win over Burnley is a monkey off the back of him and his squad.

Martinez beleives there may have been some doubters after he saw his side draw eight successive games before the weekends win at Turf Moor.

The Spaniard thinks that the players will start to get the credit they deserve if they can continue to turn impressive performances into three points.

Martinez told the Western Mail:

"I really think we took our performance to a different level that day," he said. "We have kept that performance going.'

"This result was a reflection of that and we got the win. Perhaps we will get more credit when that happens. In a way it has got a monkey off our backs regarding Ferrie.'

"Maybe for people on the outside it was an issue but in the dressing room there has always been a strong belief in the players` talents and the fact we can win without him.'

"We knew the win would come. For it to come at a place as tough as Turf Moor is credit to the players.'

"Burnley, with the way they are playing, are a big force at this level. And what they have done in the Carling Cup shows that.'

"So to end the run of draws here shows how good a performance it was because I believe Burnley are one of the best sides in this division."

Martinez will be hoping for two more wins this week, as the Swans travel to Histon in the FA Cup, followed by a home encounter with Reading on Saturday.
