Coleman: 'Best Swans Team Since Toshack'

Coleman: 'Best Swans Team Since Toshack'

Former Swan Chris Coleman believes this is the best Swansea City team since John Toshack was in charge more than 25 years ago.

The current Welsh international boss led the Swans from the old 4th Division up to the 1st Division where they spent 2 seasons in the top flight in the early 80's.

Coleman also believes Swansea City are the best footballing team in the Championship, he told BBC Sport:

'This is the best Swansea team I have seen in some years, since Toshack,'

'I watched the Toshack team and this is a good team.'

'We have faced everybody and Swansea are the best footballing side in the league,' said Coleman, whose Coventry side drew both games against the Swans.

'They passed the ball the best in terms of keeping the ball and being patient.

'They are better than Wolves and Birmingham at that, but I think Reading, Wolves and Birmingham are stronger with their squads.'

'They've got a very, very good manager in Roberto Martinez.

'This year, they've got to sit nice and tight, they're good enough for this league.

'If they want to get into the play-offs, they will have to chip away at it.

'I think eventually, they are going to have to spend a little bit.'

Martinez's side have equalled a Football League record now with 8 consecutive draws. Hopefully we can end that run with a victory on the weekend as we face Burnley away in front of the Sky Sports cameras.

It has to be, we havent been at this level since the toshack days. martinez himself has built a squad that has potential to reach the top flight again, and with the money spent it's incredible how he's done it in little time.

Yeah, a lot of managers are complimenting us saying we're the best footballing team in this division, just wish our results and league position would reflect that better.
