'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Martinez Plays Down Chances of Blues Result

Roberto Martinez has targetted a performance rather than a result when he takes his side to St. Andrew's tomorrow afternoon.

Swansea take on a Birmingham side brimming with Premiership players, and with a much bigger squad to choose from for the second game in the space of three days.

And Martinez beleives that whilst a result is not out of the question, the game is more of an opportunity for his team to perform on a top flight stage.

The Spaniard told BBC Sport:

'It's a difficult place to go and a great test for our football club,' said Martinez.

'I don't think it's a fixture where you are looking for a result in terms of getting a point or getting the three points.'

'If we can go there against an ex-Premier League team, against a squad that I think are better than last season in the Premier League, that will be a great positive aspect to keep adding on to our football club.'

'You look at the four forwards that Birmingham have got and in a way they rely on them to win football games.'

'They are players with huge experience and they know how to win games.'

Martinez also had his say on the Swans run of draws which has seen them slip off the play - off pace.

'People are talking about the draws but we are undefeated.'

'The players are more than frustrated. They are disappointed because they work really hard and we are in that phase in the season that you don't get the rewards that you deserve.'

'That's hard to take as a player... but they are realistic on why we are not winning games or why we are competitive in every game.'

'If we can perform the way we can, I will be delighted.'

'The result will then depend on how good Birmingham have been and how good we've been.'
