Martinez Hails Allen Impact

Roberto Martinez has hailed the impact of Swansea youngster Joe Allen after the midfielder came off the bench to help complete a remarkable late comeback.

The Swans looked set for their second home league defeat of the season after early second half Barnsley goals from Jon Macken and Jamal Campbell - Ryce.

But two Jason Scotland goals, one in the fourth minute of injury time, rescued the home team from the brink of defeat.

And Martinez believes Allen's 30 minute cameo appearance was the catalyst for the Swan's unlikely comeback.

Martinez told BBC Sport:

'Joe was the catalyst, he showed a lot of maturity and wanted to affect the game when he came on and that is a huge strength for a young player.'

'He dictated with some of his play and passing. He changed the game.'

'He has taken his technical ability to a different level since I gave him his debut, he has become a different player.'

Allen spent time on loan at Wrexham earlier in the season before an ankle injury forced him to return to the Liberty earlier than planned.

After his impact last night he may find himself pushing Owain Tudur Jones for a starting role at the heart of the Swansea midfield.
