'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Martinez Wants Gomez For Good

Roberto Martinez is looking to hold on to the talents of Spanish midfielder Jordi Gomez when the Espanyol man's loan deal runs out at the end of the season.

Swansea saw off competition from four La Liga sides to bring the creative midfielder to South Wales, and he has impressed with some vital goals, including the winner against Cardiff City in the Carling Cup Third round.

But Martinez knows that any deal to sign the 23-year-old on a permanent basis will have to wait until the end of the season.

El Gaffer sang the praises of Gomez in the Evening Post:

'He has a year-long loan with us and we signed him because we know he has huge potential.'

'When the season finishes we will have to see what the situation is with Espanyol, Jordi and Swansea City. Right now, Espanyol have a new manager so it will take time for him to settle in and see what options he has available.'

'I knew there was going to be a settling period for Jordi but it did not take too long for him to adapt. He is a joy to watch and we have been delighted with him.'

'It is great to see him enjoying his football with us and now he has to continue that standard.'

Gomez is Swansea's top scorer so far this season with eight goals in all competitions.
