Britton Battling To Be Fit For Bluebirds

Swansea midfielder Leon Britton is in a race against time to be fit for the first Welsh league derby since 1999.

The former West Ham man has been one of the Swans star performers this season, but has been hampered by a back injuty that kept him out of the game against Coventry on Tuesday.

And it is touch and go whether or not 'Little Leon' will make the team come Sunday.

Speaking to the Evening Post, Britton explained:

'I've been struggling for two or three weeks and actually couldn't walk for a couple of days before the Norwich game.'

'But I had a scan after Birmingham which showed that there was no disc damage, which would have been a lot more serious, and hopefully now I'll be okay for the Cardiff game.'

'I've done a bit of everything to try to get my back right.'

'I've been resting and getting massages, I've had acupuncture, seen an osteopath and been in a flotation tank.'

'I can't say for certain because so far I haven't trained, but things have been getting easier every day.'

'We've still got a couple of days before the game and I'll do anything I can to play.'

With both Jordi Gomez and Ferrie Bodde definitely out, Swans fans will be desperate for Britton's presence on the pitch. He is equally desperate to experience another derby day atmosphere.

'I said straight after that game that I couldn't wait for the next one and I've been thinking about Sunday for the last couple of weeks.'

'The atmosphere was electric last time and I'm sure it's going to be unbelievable again this weekend.'

'The hairs on the back of my neck were standing up in the warm-up and those are the days you'll remember at the end of your career.'
