'If It's Football, It's Vital'

McLeish Praises Match Winner Phillips

Birmingham City boss Alex McLeish praised match winner Kevin Phillips after his second half substitute scored a brace in just 4 minutes to win tonight's game 3-2.

The former Premiership striker didn't take long to show his class this evening as he individually handed the Swans their first home defeat of the season.

You could say though that the visitors were lucky to be in the game at that point though, as Swansea City dominated the first half but struggled to convert their chances.

McLeish told BBC Sport:

'We were 2-1 down at half time and to secure another victory shows our team spirit and character.

'The opening goal knocked the stuffing out of us and left Swansea to dictate the game.

'But Kevin Phillips is unbelievable, that's the only word to describe him.

'His finishing was amazing and typical of Kevin he makes it look simple.'
