Martinez Proud Of His Players Despite Defeat

Despite losing their first home game of the season tonight, manager Roberto Martinez said he was proud of his side's performance.

Super-sub Kevin Phillips came on to score a 4-minute brace to give former Premiership side Birmingham City a 3-2 victory.

The Swans controlled most of the first half thanks to an early opening goal from Gomez who converted Bessone's cross.

Bent equalised with an easy header but we were soon back in front after an own goal by Jaidi.

Martinez told BBC Sport:

'I'm extremely proud of our players as we put Birmingham under massive, massive pressure.

'We had enough chances to win but my concern is how expensive the injuries are going to be over the long term.

'Birmingham had three shots on target and they scored showing their quality.'
