Scotland's Starting Place In The Balance
Roberto Martinez has admitted that Jason Scotland could have a starting role against Birmingham on Friday night.
This is despite last season's top scorer being in action just 48 hours prior to the game against the Blue's with his national side.
Martinez had suggested that the Trinidad and Tobago man would be set for a place on the bench because of the amount of travelling involved for Scotland. But it seems the Spaniard is giving his number 9 every chance to prove himself ready to start the big game.
Speaking to the Evening Post, Martinez said:
'There is a lot of travelling involved so we will have to see how it goes.'
'It is an important game for their qualification, which is a big game in anyone's career.'
'We hope Jason is successful with his national team, because that will help him.'
'We hope Jason will carry on with his form. He won't be away too long so it won't affect his form too much.'
'We will have to be very careful with his situation.'
'They are playing against Cuba, and we will have to see what his role is in that game.
'We hope he plays a big part and returns without any injuries.'
Should Scotland not be able to start the game on Friday night, Gorka Pintado seems the likely man to take his place in the lone striker's role.
