Martinez: Attack Is Our Best Form Of Defence

Swansea gaffer Roberto Martinez has said his side must concentrate on what they do best - scoring goals.

Martinez made the comments after using all four of his strikers in yesterday`s 3-1 home win over Watford. Whilst many manager`s would have tried to close the game down, the Spaniard instead turned to Guillem Bauza, Gorka Pintado and Febian Brandy to ensure the home side secured the win.

Martinez told the Evening Post:

'We need to do what we are good at,'

'We are not a defensive side. If we have to keep a clean sheet to win games, we can struggle because that is not our strength.

'We have always won games by scoring more goals than the opposition, and the way we defend is by keeping the ball and playing in the last third."

He reserved special praise for goal scorers Bauza and Ferrie Bodde:

'I have been saying it for a long, long time, but I think Ferrie should be considered for the Dutch national side."

'It wasn't just that goal, he then went and created the second. The movement from Jason was special, but Ferrie had the quality to put the ball right where it needed to be.'

'It was great to see Bussy get on the scoresheet at the end. He lost a little bit of focus at the start of the season, he was maybe a little too apprehensive and showed too much respect for the division.

'But he has shown in his last three or four appearances that he was hurt by that and he looks ready now.

'He looks a very good option for us now.'

It is an option that Martinez will be likely to use against Watford again on Tuesday night as he shuffles the pack for the Carling Cup encounter.

dominating games like we do will always make it hard for teams to score against us but when we're not in possession and on the back foot, our sometimes dodgy defence makes me nervous, there are improvements that need to be made at the back i feel.
