Martinez Focussed On Double Hornets Success

Roberto Martinez has said Swansea`s two games in three days against Watford carry equal importance for the club.

The sides meet in the league on Sunday, and again on Tuesday night with a place in the Carling Cup quarter finals up for grabs. Martinez is expected to rotate the squad for the league cup clash but insists that he is not taking the competition lightly.

Speaking to the Western Mail, the Spaniard said:

"The league is always the priority, but we want to win every game and are expected to do so, so Sunday is more important as it is first - then Tuesday will become the more important.

"When you look at it, it is the second game that will be more affected by what will happen on Sunday - but the two games must be prepared for like any other and that means you only look at the first step, one we must be focused for.

"And in terms of keeping something up our sleeve, there are no secrets in football. What we have are two vital games within three days that are important for two different reasons.

"This kind of thing will be new for us, but any situation that brings a new challenge we will take together and learn from it.

"Because I believe this a team that is ready for these challenges and if we are to grow as a squad and a football club we must take these opportunities to learn and improve."

Martinez has also reaffirmed his belief that this is the worst time to be playing Watford, but is confident that home advantage could hold the key.

"They have lost one of the most influential managers in their history so that will have an impact and in many ways we have to be ready for a stronger side that we`ve seen lately.

"They`ll have that shock in their system and they will want to impress and Malky Mackay will also trying to make an impression as caretaker."

"When you lose a manger you never get a negative reaction, always positive. It is not for us to worry about it, but just to make sure we are not surprised against a side ready for the fight."

"We have been on the road but we`re back at home and we`re at a stage as a team where we should approach games at the Liberty in a very positive manner."

"We have had to prepare extra carefully after the change in manager, but I`d certainly rather approach this situation at home where a large chunk of the game will be affected by how we dictate things.

"For all that is happening with these two games, on Sunday we must start by making sure Watford are more worried about ourselves than anything else."
