'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Britton: We Belong In The Championship

Swansea City`s diminutive midfielder Leon Britton has spoke of the growing belief in the squad that they can achieve something at Championship level.

Britton has been a regular in the centre of midfield and has formed an impressive partnership with Darren Pratley and Ferrie Bodde that has been a pivotal part of the Swans impressive start to the campaign.

And the former West Ham man insists that whilst the players aren`t looking at the league table too much just yet, they are confident that the squad has the ability to beat the bigger clubs in the division.

Britton told the Evening Post:

'When we first came up we were a bit cagey. A lot of us hadn't played in this league before and we were all thinking about what it would be like.

'But we are a fair way into the season now, we have seen what's there and we believe that we should be here. In the last month or so we've started to believe that we should be doing well at this level.

'The confidence has grown and we feel we should be beating these so-called bigger clubs.'

'I don't really look at the table much,' says the 26-year-old, who missed training on Wednesday with a sore back but should be fine for Watford.

'We know Birmingham and Wolves are up there, they're doing okay, but apart from that the division's really tight.

'You don't go into games thinking 'Win this and we'll be there or lose and we'll be there', it's too early for all that. We'll start having a look at it in February or March and then try to see what we can achieve.'
