'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Aston Villa Defender Joins Swansea On Loan

Roberto Martinez has boosted his defensive options with the 3-month loan arrival of Aston Villa left back Stephen O'Halloran.

The 20 year-old Republic of Ireland international arrives as cover for the long-term injury of Marcos Painter and also gives Fede Bessone some competition for his full back place.

Despite not yet making a top flight appearance for Villa, he has some Football League experience for Wycombe, starting 9 games during the 2006/07 season.

O'Halloran says he is looking forward to the chance of playing first team football:

'I'm looking forward to the challenge,''

'I know this Swansea side plays good football and I think it will suit my style of play.

'I like to get forward whenever I can, but my main job is to help keep a clean sheet.

'I watched Swansea play Cardiff in the Carling Cup a few weeks ago live on Sky. They played really well and there looked a fantastic atmosphere at the Liberty Stadium.

'I'm really looking forward to pushing for a starting place. My aim is to get as many games as possible under my belt, improve my match fitness and help the Swans push up the Championship table.

'I'm out of contract at the end of the season, so I need to impress both managers - at Aston Villa and Swansea.''

Roberto Martinez was also pleased to see the arrival of the youngster:

'We are delighted to have signed a player that fits the Swansea City criteria perfectly,''

'He is hungry for success; desperate to enjoy his football and is highly-rated at Aston Villa. And coming back from a lengthy injury makes him even more determined to get back on the pitch and compete for a first team place.

'While he has versatility as a player, his best position is at left-back which will add extra competition to the squad following the injury to Marcos Painter.

'The fact that he became a full international at just 19, also shows the quality he already possesses and the potential he has ahead of him.''

O'Halloran will wear the number 29 shirt during his stay at the Liberty Stadium.
