Butler Now A Different Player Under Martinez

Swansea City winger Thomas Butler told the Sunday Mirror that he did't think he'd still be at the Liberty Stadium now if it wasn't for new boss Roberto Martinez.

Kenny Jackett brought him to the Liberty Stadium from Hartlepool but Butler never really had a good understanding with his former boss.

It's a complete contrast now though, as Butler says Martinez's arrival has benefited him in a number of ways:

'You know where you are with Roberto - if you play well you stay in the team. That has not always been the case with the managers I have played under.

'Not only that, he has really changed my game. My job now is to stay pinned to the touchline and give us as much width as possible. That means I have chances to take people on and create. In the past I would be shifted to different positions and never really settled in one spot.

'Roberto has also worked on ways to improve me. The Swansea fans are now seeing the best of me due to that.

'I was brought in by Kenny but I didn't always understand him.

'I'd play a few matches and then he would drop me. It was difficult to get any confidence under my belt and it was a frustrating time. I think if he was still the manager I wouldn't be here now. My whole outlook has changed.'

Butler has made 12 League appearances this season and scored his first goal of the campaign in the 3-0 home win against Southampton.

2 occurrences of a hamstring injury though have meant he has missed a few games recently.
