Poortvliet: We Were Never A Threat To Swansea

Southampton boss Jan Poortvliet has admitted his side were never a threat to Swansea as the Saints suffer a 3-0 loss to Roberto Martinez's men.

Pressure is mounting on the Dutchman to stem the tide firmly flowing against the Hampshire side. Financial woes and poor performances have accumulated in the position the St Mary's outfit now find themselves in and look firmly set for another relegation scrap.

Martinez heaped praise on Southampton prior to kick off and the Spaniard expected an open game but in truth the Swans outfought the Saints. Swansea got of to a tentative start but a Darren Pratley goal on twelve minutes soon calmed nerves. Goals from Jordi Gomez and a first for the season from Thomas Butler rounded off a consummate performance but the Dutchman has conceeded his side were simply overpowered. Poortvliet Told The BBC:

''We are disappointed to have lost 3-0 but we were never dangerous. We didn't have enough power to create anything and their win was deserved because they did more to win the game.We need to turn the boys into men and that is all about confidence'
