Martinez: Pleased With Southampton Win

Swansea City manager Roberto Martinez could not hardly contain his delight at sweeping aside a Southampton side struggling in the relegation places.

Swansea continued an impressive run of unbeaten form at home with a 3-0 win over the Saints at the Liberty Stadium this afternoon. Midfielder Darren Pratley opened the scoring just 12 minutes into the first half and goals from Thomas Butler and Jordi Gomez rounded off another comfortable win for the Swans.

Whilst there were huge positives Martinez has another injury headache to contend with. Defender Marcos Painter has sustained a knee injury but the former Birmingham man should be back in contention in a few weeks.

Hitting the 20 point mark , Swansea jump 4 places into 7th after the win against the Saints but it is the way in which his side have adapted to the championship that has impressed that has pleased Martinez.

Martinez Told The BBC and the Official site:

"It was one of those days that in every single department you can get many positives. To be able to control play that way and perform with the intensity that we did is pleasing but I think Southampton were the best footballing side we've had here this season.'

'We are looking at that performance and it seems that we are slowly getting into this division.I think it was one of those days that in every single department you can take many positives"

"To perform with the intensity that we did after the demands of Tuesday night and last Saturday at Ipswich I'm delighted because it was a clear test to the squad.Every player feels natural in this environment and that's a huge achievement."

"Getting to 20 points is a great landmark, we've got that, and the way that we achieved the result it shows that we have been ourselves and that's credit to the players. On top of that with the demands that we had in the last two weeks it's something to be very, very happy about."

They weren't bad in possession but no way were they the best footballing side here, Wolves were far better.
